Abstract: Cheng Yaotian was a great master of hanxue in the Qing dynasty. This article systematically studies Cheng Yaotian’s scholarly achievements both in textual research on the name and description of things and in etymological research. According to the author, all Cheng’s achievements were due to his diligence, careful consideration, and practical and critical academic pursuit .
