摘要： 本文论证,戊戌政变,袁世凯没有八月初四日在北京告密的必要与条件,徐世昌初四日告密说没有根据。奕劻亦非接受袁世凯告密之人,荣禄才是告密的最佳人选。袁世凯并未党附维新派,光绪帝对袁世凯的知遇之恩远早于维新党人,而保全光绪帝,是袁世凯保全自己的必然选择。袁世凯日后的飞黄腾达,并非慈禧太后对其告密的奖赏。

Abstract: This essay proves that neither Yuan Shikai’ s nor Xu Shichang’s informing against the Reform Movement of 1898 was the essential condition for the movement’s failure。Furthermore，it was Ronglu who accept the message from Yuan nor Yikuang.Yuan was not attached to the reformist group，and Emperor Gguangxu had appreciated Yuan’s ability prior theadvent of the Reformist Group.For Yuan，saving the emperor was tantamount to saving himself .The later rise of Yuan was not a reward from the Empress dowager for exposing the reforms.
