Abstract: The North Sea Navyps Ammunition Lacking has been taken as the major reason for the Qingps defeat in the battle of the Yellow Sea. But this argument mainly derived from the account of a few Westerners in China , among whom are William F. Tyler , Sir Robert Hart and C. von Hannecken , etc. This essay questions the validty of the argument and provides a more balanced explanation.

摘要： 关于甲午黄海海战北洋海军失利原因的解释,传统观点有所谓缺乏炮弹之说,在社会和学术界都有很大影响。此说主要出自当时几个来华西人,即泰莱、赫德、汉纳根等人的相关说法。但笔者认为,此说大可怀疑,难以成立,是对失利原因的一种错误解释。
