    Mao Qiling and Late Ming Dynasty and Early Qing Dynasty Scholarship

    The period from the late Ming dynasty to the early Qing  dynasty was a special era during which one feudal dynasty replaced another.It was also an important historical stage in Chinese traditional Learning during which Hanxue supplanted Songxue .Mao Qiling was a representative scholar of this process of social and intellectual change.He opposed Lixue,stressed textual research,and opened up a new sphere of Learning for Later scholars.Although Mao Qiling’s intellectual accomplishments were rather limited,he played an important role in  the Ming-Qing intellectual transition.

    In  order to shed light on the existence of autocracy in China,this essay examines the institutional framework and activities of the Qing country governments.The administrative staff in the country government was primarily composed of regular officials,assistant officials ,clerks and private secretaries.Although the Qing government took a  series of step aimed at strengthening official disciple,graft remained common.Most officials  kept to their old  ways and many neglected their duties.This proves that automatic government  without democratic institution,Cannot solve the problems of official corruption.

    China was the first country to initiate and develop charities in  the world.Early in  the Zhou Dynasty,3000 years ago,there were special officers“Si Jiu”responsible for charities.Since that time all the succeeding dynasties maintained charities .In  the Qing dynasty the charitable organizations,which existed in both the cities and countryside to care for the sick and look after the hungry and poor,were an important reason for the rapid in crease in population after the Mid-Qing.The author systematically researches the spatial and temporal changes and the social achievements of the various charitable organizations  of Beijing  in  the Qing dynasty.

    Historians have devoted a great deal of research to Kang Youwei’s memorials to Emperor Guangxu .After thorough textual research,the author of this paper believes that the sixth and seventh memorials which Kang Youwei sent had been revised before they were presented to Empress Dowager Ci Xi on March 31.1898,while the fifth memorial was submitted to Emperor Guangxu by way of the central government.

    The Ministry of Revenue “Paper Money Case”which occurred in the late period of Xian Feng’s reign was the outcome of malpractice for selfish ends engaged in  by the officials of the Ministry of Revenue and the merchants of  the official silver shop.This case revealed the drawbacks in the financial system and the new currency system during the region of Xianfeng  as well as reflecting the actual political and economic situation at the time.Based on the relevant files stored in the First Historical Archives of  China,private notes,and  other historical data,the author elucidates the  origins and outcome of this case.

    Ma Jianzhong was one of a few early modern reform thinkers and diplomats in China.His diplomatic thought had substantial contest and ricth  insight.It mainly comprised three aspects:foreign policy,diplomatic tactics and the idea of diplomatic talent.It  was the core of  Ma Jianzhong’s diplomatic thought to reform China in Light of the times. Ma Jianzhong occupied an important place in the history of the diplomatic thought of modern China.

    During the fifty years that Japan occupied Taiwan,every nationality suffered under brutal Japanese colonial rule.The Japanese resorted to military suppression,economic exploitation and educational enslavement.Japanese rule evoked the strong opposition of all the people of Taiwan,including the national minorities.In the struggle against colonial rule,the minority nationalities and Han nationality fought side by side ,making a great  contribution  to the emancipation of the Chinese nation.
