Abstract: On  the whole,Hong Chengchou was a historical figure deserving of public approval.His activities during the Ming dynasty were not praiseworthy ,but he made outstanding contributions to maintaining social order,alleviating class contradictions ,and developing the economy after he surrendered to the Qing.
