Abstract: The Ministry of Revenue “Paper Money Case”which occurred in the late period of Xian Feng’s reign was the outcome of malpractice for selfish ends engaged in  by the officials of the Ministry of Revenue and the merchants of  the official silver shop.This case revealed the drawbacks in the financial system and the new currency system during the region of Xianfeng  as well as reflecting the actual political and economic situation at the time.Based on the relevant files stored in the First Historical Archives of  China,private notes,and  other historical data,the author elucidates the  origins and outcome of this case.
