Abstract: Granaries play an important part in preparing against the nature disasters in China，especially in premodern times.  In its construction，local practices were deeply affected by the state policies.  This article analyzes the general situation of Guangdong granaries and its development in Qing Dynasty from the view of state with the intention of exploring the state’s influence and also its relationship with the gentry in the evolution process of granaries throughout the Qing Dynasty. The purpose of this article is to give some reflections on the research approach of regional social history.
